About

PaulaPaula Simoes is based in London. She graduated from the University of Essex with an honours degree in English and European Literature. Paula then went on to teach English both in the UK and abroad. During her time as a teacher she would frequently turn to drawing in order to liven up lessons and break down language barriers.

With regards to her art, she likes to add an element of fun to her work, in doing so she often places everyday objects in unfamiliar contexts. Paula also enjoys exploring ways in which people transform and shape a city, as a result of this urban landscapes are frequently the subject of her larger pieces.

She works mostly using watercolour, acrylic, ink and pencil – incorporating collage and mixed media whenever possible.

In 2010 Paula’s first three-dimensional piece, ‘The Pull of the Sea’ was selected for display at the V&A Museum of Childhood. The following year her map ‘Selected Loos of London’ was displayed at the Museum of London as part of ‘Hand-drawn London’, an exhibition in partnership with Londonist.com
